~ Justine and Marble ~

Two years ago, Justine adopted Marble. They have since formed a special bond and each day has been a bit brighter because they have each other.

In 2020, just before the first Covid-19 lockdown in New Zealand, Justine wanted to give a cat a forever home. After some searching, she saw a post by the Lonely Miaow who had some cats looking for homes. A friend drove with Justine to the rescue. Once they arrived, they met with a stripy Tabby kitty named Marble. Initially, Marble was timid, however, when she walked into her new home there was no doubt that she was there to stay.

Just before adopting Marble, Justine was unfortunately in a car accident, which led to her needing crutches due to fracturing a vertebra. Having Marble brought a lot more happiness to her recovery! While she was resting, her feline friend would bring her gifts, often consisting of either clothes pegs, bits of foil or leaves.

A year later, Justine and Marble decided to move to a different city – Wellington. It was a big adjustment for them both and was difficult doing so during a pandemic, but Justine is thankful she had Marble by her side through it all. No matter what, she can always brighten her human’s day.

Having Marble has improved Justine’s life immensely. Whether Marble is stretched out, showing her fluffy tummy, standing on her back feet like a ‘meer-cat’ for her meat paste treat, or posing for a photo for the ‘gram, she never fails to bring a smile to Justine’s face. As well as this, Marble enjoys ‘helping’ her human to re-organise her record collection, chewing on books, watching birds outside the window and chasing ping pong balls that always seem to go missing.

At the start of each work day, Marble always walks out with Justine down the stairs of her flat and, more often than not, is always there when she returns to greet her. They love the end of the day as this is when they can simply enjoy each other’s company and curl up together.

Marble hasn’t just impacted Justine’s life, but many in their community. She managed to sway Justine’s downstairs neighbour from someone who hated cats to someone who enjoys her company. While she is still quite shy, Marble’s sweet personality shines through to those who take the time to get to know her.

The bond that Justine and Marble share is so special. They have been there for each other through thick and thin, as well as sharing love and joy into every day.
