~ Cassidy and Hannah ~

Three years ago, Cassidy welcomed Hannah into her life. Since then, they have changed each other’s lives hugely and, together, share endless love and joy every day.

In 2019, Cassidy came across a plea online by Albert’s Dog Lounge Rescue. They shared a video of an almost 3-year-old dog with cerebellar hypoplasia who was looking for her forever home. Albert’s Dog Lounge were doing all they could to help Hannah find her new family, including offering vouchers for people who simply shared her post. Cassidy and her family wanted to help and spent a lot of time sharing Hannah’s story, asking friends and family members if they could adopt her and often checking in to see how she was progressing.

A month after first seeing the post, Cassidy couldn’t stand by knowing that Hannah was still looking for her forever home. So, she vowed that she would do whatever it took to give her the best life possible. Unbeknownst to her at the time, the day she sent in the adoption application also happened to be Hannah’s third birthday! Three days later, Hannah was on her way from Wisconsin to Nebraska, to her forever home.

Initially, Cassidy and her family weren’t looking to adopt any more furry friends as they already had quite a few furbabies. Yet, Hannah touched their hearts. Cassidy was anxious to adopt a dog with a neurological condition but already had some knowledge of dogs with cerebellar hypoplasia from friends she had met through social media. Once Hannah was home, however, her human’s doubts instantly disappeared seeing her sweet little face in person.

Having Hannah has taught Cassidy so much. Each day, no matter what, she always has a smile on her face and showers her humans and adoptive siblings with unconditional love. They have learnt how to think outside the box, about cerebellar hypoplasia and how best to support her. As well as this, Cassidy has also helped to create, test and modify several different wheelchairs to give Hannah the best quality of life.

Being able to share Hannah’s journey with so many people online and within her community means so much to Cassidy. Together, they show others that having a disability doesn’t make a dog any less worthy than one without a disability. They might have additional needs, but also give so much back to their humans. Both Cassidy and Hannah work to break the stigma associated with disabilities and show people that, with the right support, animals with disabilities can thrive.

Hannah has brought endless joy into Cassidy’s life. They love going for walks, with either her stroller, wagon or wheelchair (of which she can go very fast in!). As well as this, they also enjoy playing with Hannah’s favourite toys and, at the end of the day, cuddling up on the couch with each other. Whatever they decide to do, simply being in the company of one another means the world to them both.

The impact that Hannah has had on Cassidy has been immeasurable. Each day since they’ve been together, they have shared nothing but love and joy. Through thick and thin, they always know they have each other and their lives have been changed for the better because of this.
