Abrea and Flirty — May 23, 2022

Abrea and Flirty

~ Abrea and Flirty ~

A few years ago, Abrea met her best friend and service horse, Flirty. Since then, Flirty has had a huge impact on her human and allows her to have more confidence and independence in her daily life.

Back in 2017, Abrea was looking for a service animal. At the time, she had allergies to dogs and so, a service horse was recommended. Abrea visited a breeder of American Miniature horses where she met several of them. However, as soon as she met LA Blues A Little Flirtatious, or Flirty, she instantly felt a connection.

Before Flirty, Abrea hardly went out for things like groceries and rarely was able to go out with friends. Now, thanks to Flirty’s support, Abrea goes out to the shops, meets with friends and has the freedom to go where she wants. This has been life-changing for Abrea and has given her more independence than she had ever thought possible.

Abrea struggles with her mental health, so Flirty has been trained as a psychiatric service horse. This means she alerts Abrea and responds to any cue she may give, such as panic attacks, dissociation, and anxiety. Part of how Flirty helps is simply being there. Knowing that she is there if needed is reassuring and provides Abrea with a sense of security. If she experiences any symptoms, Flirty is right there to keep her grounded and help guide her.

In 2021, Abrea took Flirty to Comic-Con, something that she had been looking forward to for a long time. While they were browsing the vendors, Abrea had a severe panic attack, became very disoriented and started to dissociate. Amidst this, Flirty helped Abrea stay on her feet and guided her to a quiet area. There, she calmed Abrea down and reminded her to take her medications. Thankfully, Abrea was able to recover quickly, thanks to Flirty, and was able to go back to enjoying Comic-Con.

One of their favourite things to do together is going to the zoo. Abrea has always enjoyed going to the zoo, so being able to share this with Flirty is very special to her. It brings her joy to see Flirty interact with all the animals, and even more so seeing the other animals’ reactions to her! The primates are always especially interested in seeing Flirty when she visits.

Having Flirty has changed Abrea’s life. The love and joy they share with each other is so special. Flirty is Abrea’s family, best friend and companion, and Abrea is Flirty’s. Through thick and thin, they always know they have one another.

Jess and Emilio MSH — March 23, 2022

Jess and Emilio MSH

~ Jess and Emilio MSH ~

Four years ago, Jess brought Emilio MSH, also known as Milo, into her life. He has had a huge impact on Jess’ life and has since become her best friend.

For as long as she can remember, Jess has always loved horses. For a while now, she has been working as a successful horse trainer. In 2017, she was told of a badly behaved 10-year-old horse, Emilio MSH, who had a bucking problem. She decided to buy him and train him.

It wasn’t long before Jess realised Milo had a lot of potential. He was athletic when she met him and he needed some structure and boundaries to help him settle down. They slowly formed a very special bond and he gained confidence in himself.

Since adopting Milo, Jess and he have become the best of friends and teammates. They have done three show jump seasons and Milo always gives his all in anything they do together. He is a very talented horse but also just wants to please his human. They have an unspoken understanding of each other which makes them an amazing team.

Together, they have also competed up to the equivalent FEI 1* 1.40m level. When not competing, however, they both enjoy just hacking, or riding, together. Having Milo has brought so much joy into Jess’ life. He has a big heart and just wants to share happiness with her. They love to explore together, whether on a new trail or trying a new routine together, any time they spend together is time they cherish.

The bond that Jess and Milo have formed is amazing and they have had such a huge impact on one another. They have helped each other to flourish and share so much love.

Hattie and Harley — February 15, 2022

Hattie and Harley

In 2020, Hattie met Harley, a beautiful dark brown gelding pony. Since then, they have formed such a strong bond and have helped each other immensely.

Just over a year ago, Hattie met Harley while at a friend’s house. She instantly fell in love with him and decided to adopt him. Unlike her previous horse, however, Harley was a young green, or a horse with little to no training. It has been a bit of an adjustment, but it helped Hattie grow a lot as a rider and trainer.

Having Harley has had a huge impact on Hattie. Working with him has taught her patience, courage, and how to work as a team. She also learned how to be more confident in herself and her skills when training Harley. Since then, he has gone from a pony with hardly any training to one who loves to jump and go for rides with Hattie.

When not riding together, Harley loves cuddles. Whenever he and Hattie are spending time together, cuddles are his favourite thing. This has also helped Hattie as, if she’s having a difficult day, spending this time with Harley instantly lifts her mood.

Harley has been life-changing for Hattie. He has helped her in so many ways, from teaching her how to be a better handler, to just bringing happiness into each day. No matter what, they know they always have each other through thick and thin.

Annie and Crystal — September 6, 2021

Annie and Crystal

~ Annie and Crystal ~

A few years ago, Annie met Crystal. When Crystal turned five, she was taken into Annie’s care. Since then, they have become the best of friends.

When Crystal was just over one year old, she and Annie met. A family friend had her as their horse but was unable to keep her as she grew older. At age five, Annie adopted her.

Initially, it was a challenge for Annie to adjust to having Crystal around. A few years prior to having Crystal in her life, Annie experienced a traumatic experience. She was very afraid of horses as a result of this event and was scared to be near Crystal.

Two weeks after adopting her, Annie decided to try riding Crystal. She was participating in a trail competition, however, the horse she was on began acting up, and so Annie panicked. Because of this, she got off the horse and decided to ride Crystal. While younger than the other horses, Crystal remained calm despite the other horses misbehaving around her. As a result, Annie began to trust Crystal and enjoyed her company.

Having Crystal has allowed Annie to heal and recover from her traumatic experience. Since then, similar incidents have happened, and thanks to Crystal, Annie has been able to get through it. She has been able to feel comfortable around horses again and loves their company.

Now, Annie loves going for trail rides with Crystal. Together, they enjoy exploring new places and going on adventures. They have each other and Annie knows that Crystal is right there to support her.

It is evident how much Annie and Crystal help each other. Annie can now enjoy riding horses and feel safe around them. Her life has improved because of the relationship she has with Crystal. The love and care they have for one another is truly special.
