Tracey-Lee and Poppy — November 23, 2022

Tracey-Lee and Poppy

~ Tracey-Lee and Poppy ~

Eleven years ago, Tracey-Lee rescued Poppy, a beautiful Staffy x pup. Since then, they have formed an incredible bond and have changed each other’s lives for the better.

Right after the devastating Christchurch earthquakes in 2011, Tracey heard of a litter of 3-month-old puppies who had been abandoned by the Waimakariri River. She decided to arrange a visit to the Christchurch SPCA to meet the pups. As soon as Tracey walked into the cage, she was met with lots of wiggly tails and lots of licks. However, one pup, named Tink, stayed behind. She was more timid than her siblings, and Tracey knew this was the pup for her. Right then and there, she adopted her and named her Poppy.

Following the trauma from the Christchurch earthquakes, Tracey struggled with her mental health. It was a very dark time for her. However, having Poppy gave Tracey a purpose, someone to care for and brought so much happiness into each day. It has been a long journey since then, but they have helped each other to recover from these traumas. They have both provided one another with unconditional love and endless joy.

Wanting to find a way to thank Poppy for all she has done, Tracey made it her goal to find them a home that had a big backyard. Wanting to give Poppy her best life possible, Tracey became a volunteer ambulance driver for St John New Zealand. After a lot of hard work, she is now a full-time ambulance officer, has given up smoking and has recently moved into a new home where Poppy can run around to her heart’s content.

Being an ambulance driver can be immensely stressful. Tracey has saved many people and helped many more in their time of need. It’s definitely not an easy job. One memorable call-out was to the 2019 mosque shootings in Christchurch. The scenes were heartbreaking. It was a difficult time following the scenes she witnessed, but Poppy was right there, reminding her of the good that still existed in the world.

Both Tracey and Poppy enjoy going on road trips together in their Australian muscle car. Poppy has a bit of arthritis in her back now. It’s hard for her human to see this, but she is still full of beans and continues to provide Tracey with endless joy each and every day.

The impact that both Tracey and Poppy have had on one another has been life-changing. Together, they know there’s nothing that they can’t get through. Every day is made better simply because they have each other.

Sheri and Maggie — October 7, 2022

Sheri and Maggie

~ Sheri and Maggie ~

Over a year ago, Sheri welcomed Staffy pup, Maggie, into her home. Since then, they have become the best of friends and have changed each other’s lives for the better.

At the beginning of 2021, Sheri and her partner wanted to adopt a dog. After some research, they decided that a Staffy was the best dog for them. They heard of a litter of them and decided to arrange a visit. As soon as Sheri met a pup named Maggie, she fell instantly in love and adopted her then and there.

Since adopting Maggie, her vet has found that she has a neurological condition in her back legs known as ataxia. This is when the spinal cord can’t properly communicate with her back legs, causing wobbling, lack of coordination and more. While the cause of this is currently unknown, Sheri does know that it isn’t causing any pain or causing any other health issues for her canine companion.

Having Maggie has had a huge impact on Sheri. Because of her disability, Sheri ensures her furry friend is able to live her best life. From running around at their favourite park to going to dog-friendly cafes and meeting new people and dogs, having this time together means the world to them both.

Not only has Maggie had an impact on Sheri, but also on their community. Maggie is such a gentle dog and brings love and joy into each and every day. Everyone who meets her falls in love. Maggie shows that having a disability doesn’t hold her back and she can still live a full and happy life.

The bond that Sheri and Maggie share is truly special. The love and care they have for one another is beautiful and they have changed each other’s lives hugely.

Ana and Boba — February 18, 2022

Ana and Boba

~ Ana and Boba ~

In late 2020, Ana met Staffordshire Terrier pup, Boba. While she had a tough upbringing, Ana helped her to flourish into a bubbly, loving dog.

June of 2020, Ana and her partner, Ted, felt it was time to adopt a dog. She had always wanted a dog and finally felt ready. Ana started searching online and came across the Saving Hope Foundation, a no-kill sanctuary for animals in New Zealand. She saw a sweet light brown and white Staffy puppy and knew she was the one.

A month later, Ana met with the foster family and from the moment she first met, there was no doubt in Ana’s mind this was the perfect puppy. She was a bright and bubbly pup who instantly brightened her day. Ana looked at Ted and they both just knew she was the one. They immediately decided to adopt her and named her Boba.

Soon after adopting Boba, Ana and Ted struggled to help her adapt to her new home. She was very timid and shy. They found it a challenge to walk her on a leash and to get her into theit car for trips to the beach or the vet. This was difficult for Ana to see. She wanted Boba to know she was safe, but it took months before she slowly adjusted.

Working through everything with Boba has taught Ana a lot. She has learnt to be more understanding and patient, as well as being able to read cues when she may be a bit unsure of something. It wasn’t an easy journey, but it was all worth it for Boba who is now thriving.

One day, while Ana and Ted were at work, Boba managed to escape their house. Upon returning home, Ana couldn’t find her anywhere. It was harrowing for her as she was terrified she may not see Boba again. Just as she was starting to lose hope, however, they found her happily in a neighbour’s backyard. From then, Ana vowed to herself that she would always treasure Boba and ensure she gets the best life possible.

Having Boba has helped Ana so much. Before Boba, Ana was happy to stay at home. Now, she has been encouraged to go out, to socialise and to embrace nature more. Because she loves meeting new people – and dogs – Boba has helped Ana to be more confident when out and about.

Not only has Boba had an impact on Ana, but also her family. Ana’s family love to visit them both and are always shown a lot of love by Boba. Her happiness is so infectious that anyone who meets her is instantly filled with joy. She’s just a loving, goofy and sweet doggo who enjoys making those around her smile.

Something that Ana and Boba enjoy doing together is exploring their surroundings and just spending time with each other. Ana is very creative and Boba is happy to help her pursue this. They have an Instagram account where they share Boba’s adventures and the occasional photoshoot!

The impact that Ana and Boba have had on each other is amazing. They share such a beautiful and special bond. They have both changed their lives for the better through love and joy.

Bryce and Buster — December 3, 2021

Bryce and Buster

~ Bryce and Buster ~

Just over five years ago, Buster found his forever home with Bryce. Since then, they have become the best of friends and Buster has flourished into a loving and bubbly dog.

In 2016, Bryce met Buster, an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Since then, Buster has helped Bryce immensely; through thick and thin. He has been a great companion and is always at Bryce’s side.

Buster is definitely a very loved doggo. He brings so much happiness to Bryce and their community. Buster is full of joy and loves to spread it with as many people as he can. He also helps to educate others on his breed. Sometimes Staffys can seem a bit scary, but not all of them are. Those who are raised in a responsible and good environment can grow up to become very loving and kind dogs – just look at Buster!

Having Buster has taught Bryce so much. He has learnt about dogs and how best to care for them. Not only this, but Bryce’s life has been changed for the better by Buster. Through all of life’s challenges, having Buster has helped Bryce get through. Bryce loves to talk to Buster about his day when he gets home from work. It’s time they get to spend together and just enjoy each other’s company.

The bond that Bryce and Buster share is truly special. Buster has helped Bryce immensely, and Bryce has helped Buster become the handsome boy he is today!

Bri and Patch — May 17, 2021

Bri and Patch

~ Bri and Patch ~

Although he had a rough start to life, Patch, a Border Collie x Staffy, with the help of his human, Bri, has flourished into a beautiful and loving dog.  They have both formed a very strong bond and are now inseparable.

At only a few weeks old, Patch’s mother was in an accident.  He and his 10 other siblings were all then taken to the SPCA.  At 4-months-old, after he was taken into the care of the SPCA, Bri found him listed on Trade Me.  She fell in love with him and welcomed him into her family.

Having Patch in her life has helped Bri immensely.  She has found more purpose in life and more reasons to go outside and be active.  Patch loves to go for walks and run around.  He has helped Bri a lot, both mentally and physically.  For Patch, Bri has helped him to have a better life.  He is loved and is able to play, enjoy food and more.

One of Patch’s favourite things is going for walks.  If Bri simply says the word ‘walk’, Patch becomes very excited!  He’s definitely a character, but it’s because of this that no matter what, he can always bring a smile to someone’s face.

Not only has Patch helped bring more happiness to Bri’s life, but he is loved by the community.  Bri’s father enjoys walking Patch, and their community enjoy saying hello to him when out and about.  He’s certainly a bit of a local celebrity there!

The bond between Bri and Patch is obvious.  From the way they look at one another, can understand each other and simply just how much love they have is truly something special.
